The Brobecks

Lately, it’s becoming harder and harder to find music both tagged as “fun” and “creative”. The Brobecks are a band of special proportions — utilizing catchy keys, fun melodies, infectious riffs, and undeniable hooks. Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, The Brobecks are four guys with great music tastes playing some great music. Their generally fun sound can be compared to The Strokes, Weezer, or The French Kicks, while their creative output is comparable to acts such as The Flaming Lips or Radiohead, especially in the way the keyboards are incorporated in their straightforward and catchy songs. Their new album, Goodnight, and Have a Pleasant Tomorrow is available today, and we have four songs off of the album for you to listen to.

‘Bike Ride’ is the obvious opener to the album. Just listen to it, and you’ll see what I mean. The keys really kickstart this song abruptly during it’s slight halts, as the modern vocals are sung very well, especially during the catchy chorus where the vocals tirelessly carry the song over the traditionally adaptable music. The moment “Oh, I’m in hell, I’ve got to tell somebody now,” is sung, you’ll most likely find a liking for The Brobecks and their sound. ‘Goodnight Socialite’ is more in that creative aspect, calling shades of The Paper Chase as the haunting lyrics are sung over some creepy strings and keys. ‘Jacqui’ is much in the form of ‘Bike Ride’, with listenable verses and a very cool chorus poking a little fun at journalists. This song probably reminds me of Weezer the most. ‘Sleeping Pills’ comes later in the album, detailing “sleeping pills and late night films”. It is definitely one of the slower tempoed songs on the album, but it shows The Brobecks’ diversity, as the song is fantastic. It actually may be my favorite out of the four. Oh yeah, and this band isn’t even signed yet! With songs like these, it’s only a matter of time.
